Medical Travel Korea (MTK) helps international patients understand and coordinate treatment pricing, booking terms and available payment methods when arranging care with hospitals and clinics in Korea.
The hospital or clinic sets and confirms the treatment price. MTK does not add a markup to the treatment price set or quoted by the medical institution.
Additional charges may apply when a patient requests optional or personalized support services, or when the medical institution, bank, card issuer or payment provider applies its own fee. Applicable additional charges are confirmed separately before payment.
The medical institution remains responsible for its treatment invoice, final treatment price, medical-service cancellation conditions and refund terms.
What might an international patient pay for?
Different charges may be issued by different parties. Before paying, identify who is charging the amount, what the payment covers and which cancellation or refund terms apply.
The cost of consultation, tests, procedures, medication or other clinical services provided by the hospital or clinic.
A fee set by the hospital or clinic to secure an appointment, reduce no-shows or cover a consultation when no procedure is performed.
An advance payment requested toward a planned treatment. Whether it is credited, refundable or non-refundable depends on the institution's confirmed terms.
Separately confirmed services requested by the patient, such as professional interpretation, transportation, airport pickup or accommodation.
International transfer fees, intermediary-bank charges, card fees, foreign-transaction fees or currency-conversion costs may be applied by the relevant financial provider.
Additional items requested outside the original treatment, booking or support arrangement may be charged separately after the patient confirms them.
What does No Markup mean at MTK?
MTK does not add a platform markup to the provider-set treatment price
The hospital or clinic sets or quotes the treatment price. MTK does not increase that medical institution price by adding a separate treatment-price markup.
Treatment prices and promotions may vary by institution, branch, physician, treatment specification, date or booking channel. The No Markup principle means that MTK does not add its own increase to the treatment price provided by the medical institution.
What is the difference between a preliminary estimate and the final price?
An estimated price based on the information available before an in-person or formal medical assessment. It helps the patient understand the likely cost range, but it is not always the final invoice.
The price confirmed by the hospital or clinic after clinical assessment and agreement on the actual treatment, test, medication or procedure scope.
- The treating doctor's assessment or examination findings.
- Changes to the procedure, treatment area, dosage, device setting or treatment scope.
- Additional tests, medication, anesthesia or medically necessary services.
- A patient requesting a different doctor, procedure, package or optional service.
- Institution-specific promotions, conditions or date-based pricing.
How do payments for Korean hospitals and clinics work?
The available payment route depends on the medical institution, invoice type and confirmed arrangement.
-
Confirm the treatment or booking arrangement
Review the planned consultation, treatment, reservation or support service and confirm the applicable terms before an invoice or payment request is issued.
-
Review the invoice or payment request
Check the hospital or clinic identity, billed item, currency, amount, payment deadline and cancellation or refund conditions.
-
Use the confirmed payment route
Depending on the invoice, payment may be made directly to the medical institution or through an approved payment route connected to the institution's invoice.
-
Keep the payment confirmation
Retain the hospital invoice, transfer receipt, card confirmation or other payment record until the medical institution confirms receipt.
Who sets cancellation and refund terms?
Cancellation, rescheduling, no-show and refund conditions depend on what was paid for and which party issued the invoice or service confirmation.
Refunds for treatment payments, hospital deposits, reservation fees and consultation fees follow the medical institution's confirmed terms.
Cancellation or refund terms for separately confirmed MTK support packages or optional services follow the applicable service confirmation and terms.
Transfer fees, card fees, exchange-rate differences or other third-party financial charges may follow the bank or payment provider's own rules.
- Whether the amount is refundable, non-refundable or credited toward treatment.
- The cancellation and rescheduling deadlines.
- The consequences of a no-show or late cancellation.
- How a refund is requested and which party processes it.
- The expected refund method and processing period.
- Whether bank, card or currency-conversion charges may be excluded from the refunded amount.
How does MTK handle commercial relationships and advertising?
Commercial relationships do not change the No Markup principle
MTK works with hospitals and clinics through different booking, service, technology, partnership and promotional arrangements. MTK may receive compensation from medical institutions under separate business agreements.
These relationships do not authorize MTK to add a markup to the treatment price set or quoted by the medical institution.
When a placement or piece of content is paid advertising, promotional or sponsored, it is identified accordingly. Paid promotional placement remains separate from MTK's organic ranking results.
Optional or personalized services requested by the patient, medical institution-set fees and third-party payment charges may apply. Any applicable additional charges are confirmed separately before payment.
What should patients check before making a payment?
- Recipient: confirm the legal name of the hospital, clinic, MTK service or authorized payment recipient.
- Purpose: confirm whether the payment is for treatment, consultation, reservation, deposit or an optional support service.
- Amount and currency: check the amount, currency and any separately charged items.
- Invoice details: confirm that the medical institution and treatment information match the arrangement you approved.
- Cancellation and refund terms: review these before authorizing payment.
- Third-party fees: check international transfer, card, intermediary-bank and currency-conversion charges.
- Payment deadline: confirm when the payment or deposit must be completed.
- Payment record: save the invoice, receipt and payment confirmation.
Common questions about Korean medical prices and payments
Does MTK add a markup to hospital or clinic treatment prices?
No. MTK does not add a platform markup to the treatment price set or quoted by the medical institution. Other institution-set, optional service or third-party payment charges may apply and are confirmed separately.
Are all MTK services free?
No Markup applies to the medical institution's treatment price. Optional or personalized services requested by the patient, including professional interpretation, transportation, airport pickup or accommodation, may have separate charges.
Is the preliminary treatment price guaranteed?
Not always. Preliminary pricing is based on the information available before clinical assessment. The hospital or clinic confirms the final treatment scope and price after consultation.
What is a reservation or consultation fee?
It is a fee set by a medical institution to secure an appointment, reduce no-shows or cover consultation when no treatment is performed. Its refund or credit terms depend on the institution's policy.
What is a treatment deposit?
A treatment deposit is an advance payment toward planned medical services. Whether it is credited to treatment, refundable or non-refundable depends on the hospital or clinic's confirmed terms.
Can I pay a Korean hospital bill from overseas?
Eligible hospital invoices may support international bank transfer through Woori Bank or international card payment through Toss Payments. Available methods depend on the medical institution and invoice.
Who handles a refund?
The responsible party depends on what was paid for. Hospital treatment payments and institution-set fees follow the hospital or clinic's refund terms. Separately purchased MTK support services follow the applicable MTK service terms.
Do MTK's hospital partnerships increase the patient's treatment price?
MTK's commercial relationships do not authorize MTK to add a markup to the treatment price quoted by the medical institution. Paid advertising is identified separately from organic ranking.
Does payment guarantee a medical visa or visa approval?
No. Where applicable, a hospital or authorized facilitator may provide supporting documents after required booking, identity and payment conditions are met. Visa decisions remain with the relevant immigration or consular authority.
The medical institution sets and confirms the treatment price. MTK does not add a markup to that provider-set treatment price. Institution-set fees, patient-requested optional services and third-party payment costs are handled separately and should be confirmed before payment.
